From Nakamura Chuzaburo Shoten, a silk thread merchant founded in 1897 in Kyoto's Nishijin district — the historic heart of Japanese silk weaving — comes a body towel made entirely of tsumugi silk.

For more than 120 years, the family has worked with silk at its source, selecting yarn by hand and eye. That expertise is at the core of this towel. It is woven from carefully chosen tsumugi silk, a spun silk yarn made from short silk fibers. Compared with smooth filament silk, tsumugi has a softer, slightly textured character that feels natural and comfortable against the skin.

Gentle, everyday comfort

Silk is a natural protein fiber, prized in Japan for its kindness to the skin. This towel brings that quality into a daily ritual. The open, airy weave feels light in the hand and keeps each bath simple and pleasant, whether you use it every morning or as a quiet indulgence at the end of the day.

Made with care in Japan

Every step, from weaving to sewing, is completed at domestic workshops in Japan. The result is an honest, unadorned piece, free of unnecessary decoration and focused on comfort and ease of use. It is also chosen as a guest amenity by long-established ryokan in Kyoto, where comfort and hospitality are taken seriously.

A natural ivory tone

Left undyed in its natural ivory, known in Japan as kinari, the towel brings a calm, unadorned beauty to the bathroom and sits easily alongside any interior.

Care

  • Hand wash in lukewarm water (30°C or below) with a mild, neutral detergent.
  • Do not use chlorine bleach, as it can damage silk fibers.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Due to the nature of how the yarn is made, the towel will shrink slightly after washing. Gently press out excess water, reshape, and dry in the shade.
